Paper Dapple

Addition with tens and ones

Choose mixed, no-exchange or exchange-required practice. See a worked example, try two guided additions, then practice eight more. Check an answer or your steps below, then try again with help from the same question. The last PDF page has the matching answers.

The readable worksheet below has the current questions and a separate matching key. The text download is a UTF-8 readable equivalent with the complete worksheet and key; it is not an actual-size paper layout or a tagged PDF.

Mixed alternates exchange and no-exchange questions. No-exchange keeps each ones total below 10; exchange-required makes each ones total at least 10. New focused profiles use version 1 IDs. These choices describe the ones step.

Use a whole number from 1 to 999999. The same profile and seed keep the same questions. Print at actual size on the matching paper.

See, try, check and return

Use one set to explain the ones step, try it, check your work and pick up where you stopped. Start when you can identify tens and ones and count up to ten ones. These questions add two numbers from 10 to 49, with sums below 100.

  1. Choose one set. Choose a practice profile, Letter or A4, and a whole-number seed from 1 to 999999 in the settings above. Check the current profile and seed. Use the current readable worksheet below, or download its PDF or readable text with the matching key. Paper size does not change the questions. Print at actual size on the matching paper.
  2. Explain the current worked example. Read its ones total first. Ten or more ones need an exchange of exactly ten ones for one ten. Fewer than ten ones stay as ones, with no exchange. The example below follows your current practice choice.
  3. Try the two guided questions. Before opening the answers, record the ones total, exchange yes/no and final tens and ones. Mixed practice has one of each kind; each focused choice keeps the same kind for all ten questions.
  4. Match and check. Choose the current question in Check a current question, enter your answer or four steps, then choose the matching check action. Helpful correction follows the ones, exchange and final tens/ones sequence. Edit and try again. Open “Show matching answers” deliberately when you want the complete key.
  5. Continue or revisit. When the guided steps make sense, try question 3, then more of the eight practice questions if useful. Check with the same key. Stay with the worked example and guided pair when you need them.
  6. Keep a continuation note. Keep the current PDF or text and write the profile, seed, paper, last checked question ID and next question number on your own paper or local note. Return by manually entering the same profile, seed and paper; redo a previously mismatched question before continuing.
  7. Repeat when useful. Choose “New practice set” for another seed: 12345 becomes 12346; 999999 wraps to 1. The question IDs change. Values can repeat across sets. Keep the new set with its new matching key.

Mixed practice sample — seed 12345 only. Guided question 1, rg:12345:01, is 23 + 49: 12 ones, exchange one ten, then 7 tens and 2 ones = 72. Guided question 2, rg:12345:02, is 24 + 40: 4 ones, no exchange, then 6 tens and 4 ones = 64. These sample values describe the mixed profile at this seed.

Deliberately wrong mixed-practice sample. Suppose question 1 was written as 62. First match rg:12345:01, then compare your steps with its key: 12 ones, one ten exchanged, 7 final tens and 2 ones. Redo the first differing step; if you wrote 6 final tens, include the exchanged ten with the original 6 tens.

Fictional continuation note: mixed profile · seed 12345 · A4 · last checked rg:12345:02 · next question 3. Choose mixed practice, re-enter 12345 and choose A4 here, match those IDs, then continue at 3.

This page does not automatically save choices, answers or your position. A bookmark keeps only the return address. Parent Print Lab workbench or settings files do not save or reopen this separate addition helper. Your downloaded set and manual note remain a return record. You can also deliberately save and reopen a separate addition practice file below.

Save and reopen your practice

A practice file keeps this helper’s profile, paper, seed, ten question IDs, selected question, answer and step entries, check choices and continuation note. Opening it recomputes checks from the matching questions. It does not keep the complete answer key, preview page or other creation-tool work.

Keep the file private: anyone holding it can read your entries and note. Save and Open use a file on your device. Nothing is uploaded or automatically saved. A bookmark keeps only this page’s address. Older workbench, design, settings and project files cannot be opened here.

For example: “Redo question 2, then start question 3.” You can still keep a paper note and return by manually entering the same profile, paper and seed. Changing those settings clears the current entries, checks and note.

Choose Save when you want a file. Closing the page loses changes you have not deliberately saved.
